MOFAT Spokesperson’s Commentary on Canada’s Sanctions on N.Korea

The Government of the Republic of Korea sees Canada’s recent action, follow-up measures to Prime Minister Harper’s statement on North Korea sanctions on May 24, as reaffirming the Canadian government’s firm commitment against North Korea’s sinking of the Cheonan. The Government of the Republic of Korea expresses gratitude to the Canadian government for having actively participated in an investigation into the Cheonan incident, and joined international efforts to urge North Korea to change attitude and behavior. The Government of the Republic of Korea called on North Korea to face up to the international community’s firm position, admit responsibility for the Cheonan incident as soon as possible, and show sincere commitment to dialogue and denuclearization with action.
