2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit to Take Place on March 26-27

With the 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit just around the corner, the Republic of Korea is making every preparatory effort to make a success of the event.

In the meeting, the leaders of 53 countries and 4 international organizations will seek ways to safeguard the world from ill-intentioned use of nuclear materials.

The meeting will bring together not only the countries that took part in the inaugural Nuclear Security Summit, but also several other invitees considered important for discussions on nuclear security, such as Denmark and Azerbaijan, as well as INTERPOL.

In an effort to make a success of this multilateral diplomatic event, the ROK has held a number of working-level meetings with other participating countries since 2010.

The Seoul Communiqué, the concluding document to be adopted at the upcoming Summit, will consist of a wide range of measures for preventing nuclear and radioactive terrorism.

The Seoul Summit, while maintaining the continuity with the inaugural Washington Summit, will seek to move further forward international discussions on nuclear security, including ways to safeguard and control nuclear and other radioactive materials as well as implications of nuclear safety in the context of nuclear security.
