Foreign Minister Speaks about the Outcome of the Latest
ROK-US Summit at the 60th Anniversary of AMCHAM Reception


On May 14, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se delivered remarks at the 60th Anniversary Reception of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM). In his remarks, the Foreign Minister noted with appreciation AMCHAM’s contribution to the development of the Republic of Korea over the past 60 years and elaborated on the outcome of President Park Geun-hye’s recent visit to the US. He also asked AMCHAM to continue its efforts to further strengthen substantive cooperation between the ROK and the US.

Foreign Ministry Recruits “Junior Public Diplomacy Group”


1. As part of its “public diplomacy in partnership with the people,” the Foreign Ministry is receiving applications from May 15 through June 14 from youngsters who wish to join a “junior public diplomacy group.”

○ The junior public diplomacy group, which will be comprised of a total of 30 Korean and foreign youngsters residing in the Republic of Korea, will plan and conduct in teams public diplomacy activities in the ROK and other countries.

○ The group will come up with its own ideas for projects and carry out relevant activities accordingly. The Foreign Ministry, on its part, will provide the group with uniforms, meeting place and other resources necessary for its activities.

2. The Foreign Ministry pursues this project with the aim to employ diplomatic capacity of youngsters in promoting Korea at a time when diplomacy is carried out with the support of people. We hope that many youngsters with original ideas and passion will take interest and apply to join the group.

○ The junior public diplomacy group is being formed as part of the new government’s policy tasks, “public diplomacy in partnership with the people.” Other such programs include “every citizen as public diplomat” project, for which applications were received until recently, and the “senior public diplomacy group” project, which will be launched later.

3. The Foreign Ministry will continue planning and conducting a variety of public diplomacy programs in partnership with various groups of people from youngsters to senior citizens. Through such programs, it will seek to realize a “charming Korea trusted by the global community” with the support of talented people.
