President Moon says “New Order about to Take Shape on Korean Peninsula.”
“U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s visit to the North helped create an atmosphere and conditions for a second U.S.-North Korea summit to be held at an early date,” said President Moon Jae-in during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Oct. 8.
Foreign Minister Holds Working Dinner with US Secretary of State
On October 7, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha held a working dinner with Secretary of State of the US Mike Pompeo, who was on a visit to the ROK. Over the dinner that came after Secretary Pompeo’s courtesy call on President Moon Jae-in, the Minister and the Secretary exchanged views on the outcome of the latter’s latest visit to the DPRK.
Vice Foreign Minister Cho Meets with Cabinet Secretary of Kenya
On October 8, Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun met with Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Kenya Monica Juma, who was on a visit to the ROK. In the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual concern, including main recent exchanges between the two countries.
2nd Korea-AU Policy Consultation Meeting Takes Place
The 2nd Korea-African Union Policy Consultation Meeting took place in Seoul (Lotte Hotel) on October 11, with Director-General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hong Jin-wook and Acting Chairperson of the AU Permanent Representatives Committee David Claude Pierre leading their respective delegations.
ROK Government Offers Additional Humanitarian Assistance to Earthquake-Hit Indonesia
On October 8, the government of the ROK provided additional humanitarian assistance of two military transport aircraft and relief goods to Indonesia, which suffered significant damage from the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Sulawesi Island on September 28.
