Republic of Korea-U.S. Summit to Take Place in June
At the invitation of President Moon Jae-in, U.S. President Donald Trump will make a visit to Korea in conjunction with his participation in the G20 Summit slated for late June in Japan. The detailed schedule will be further discussed through diplomatic channels. The forthcoming Republic of Korea-United States summit will be held approximately two months after the April 11 summit in Washington, D.C.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Holds Telephone Conversation with Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha held a telephone conversation with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Margot Wallström on May 10, at the request of the Swedish side. The two sides exchanged views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways to promote cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom of Sweden.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets with Executive Director of World Food Programme (WFP)
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha met with Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) David Beasley at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 13. The two sides took note of the continued expansion of cooperation between the Republic of Korea, a responsible member of the international community, and the WFP, an organization leading the UN’s humanitarian assistance, amid deepening humanitarian crises across the world.
Foreign Minister Meets with US Special Representative for North Korea Biegun
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha met with Mr. Stephen Biegun, Special Representative for North Korea of the Department of State of the United States, on May 10. In the meeting, the two sides exchanged their views on the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula, including the short-range missile launch by North Korea on May 9, and discussed ways to achieve complete denuclearization and permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
ROK Government Announces its Plan to Provide 500,000 USD in Humanitarian Assistance through WHO to Help Respond to Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Democratic Republic of Congo
The government of the Republic of Korea will provide humanitarian assistance of 0.5 million USD in cash to the World Health Organization (WHO) to help respond to the EVD outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)’s North Kivu and Ituri provinces since August 2018.
