The President Meets with Acting U.S. Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan

President Moon Jae-in met with acting U.S. Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan at Cheong Wa Dae. At their meeting, President Moon said that the ROK-U.S. alliance is more important than anything else for completing denuclearization and establishing permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue. The President went on to urge the acting Defense Secretary to provide support so that the ironclad alliance can bring the peace process on the Korean Peninsula to a successful conclusion.

During the courtesy call, the Ambassador extended congratulations to the Vice Minister on his inauguration; and the two sides exchanged views on key issues between the two countries.

Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with Mr. Stephen Biegun, Special Representative for North Korea of the United States, in the Republic of Singapore on June 1. Prior to the ROK-US meeting, Amb. Lee held a trilateral working dinner with the US and Japanese chief negotiators on the North Korean nuclear issue on May 31.
