Minister of Foreign Affairs Holds Telephone Conversation with UN Deputy Secretary-General
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha spoke over the phone with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed on April 23 at the latter’s request, and discussed the developments in responses to COVID-19 and climate change. Minister Kang explained that the government of the Republic of Korea has been achieving results in its efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 based on transparency and expertise in the country, and noted with appreciation that the UN has been making comprehensive responses on its part to tackle COVID-19.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha spoke over the phone with Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) David Beasley on April 24 at the latter’s request, and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Korea and the WFP as well as the need for cooperation in responding to COVID-19.

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Sei-young participated in the 6th multilateral teleconference among the vice foreign ministers of 7 countries in the region on April 24. In the teleconference, the vice foreign ministers explained the developments in the spread of COVID-19 and response measures in their respective countries and extensively exchanged views on ways to smoothly carry out diplomatic activities.

The Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China have agreed on introducing a “fast track procedure (a streamlined arrival system)” which alleviates hurdles faced by Koreans visiting China for business purpose through measures such as minimizing quarantine upon entry.
