Telephone Conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs and U.S. Secretary of State
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang Kyung-wha had a telephone conversation with Secretary of State of the United States Mike Pompeo on October 5 at the latter’s request. Secretary Pompeo explained that his visit to the Republic of Korea this week was postponed due to unavoidable circumstances on the U.S. side and asked for the ROK side’s understanding. Minister Kang wished for a speedy recovery of President Trump and the First Lady and added that she was sorry that the visit was postponed. The Minister and the Secretary exchanged views on the ROK-U.S. relations as well as the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula.

5th ROK-UK Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha, together with the Rt Hon. Dominic Raab, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland had the 5th ROK-UK Foreign Ministerial Strategic Dialogue in Seoul on September 29. The two sides had an in-depth discussion on ways to develop the bilateral relations, including expanding substantive cooperation.

Vice Foreign Minister Choi Meets with Diplomatic Corps of GRULAC in ROK
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Choi Jong Kun had his first meeting with the diplomatic corps of a regional group in the Republic of Korea, including ambassadors of 15 Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC) countries to the ROK on September 28 at the request of the diplomatic corps of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) in the ROK.

The 2nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) was held in a virtual format on September 28-29 to discuss ways for regional cooperation in COVID-19 response and take stock of the progress in implementing APEC’s key initiatives on trade and investment liberalization and economic and technology cooperation.

“Special Entry Procedure for Korean and Japanese Business People” to be Implemented from Oct. 8
The Republic of Korea and Japan have agreed to start implementing “a special entry procedure for Korean and Japanese business people” on October 8. During their telephone conversation on September 24, the leaders of the ROK and Japan had welcomed the forthcoming agreement on the special entry procedure.
