Minister of Foreign Affairs Delivers Speech on Way Forward for Korea-U.S. Alliance at U.S. Aspen Security Forum
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kang, Kyung-wha delivered a keynote speech on the development of the Korea-U.S. alliance and the way forward at the invitation of the Aspen Security Forum on December 11. At the event broadcast live online, Foreign Minister Kang, following her keynote speech, also had a question-and-answer session with Mr. Nicholas Burns, the moderator of the Forum and Executive Director of the Aspen Strategy Group and Aspen Security Forum (former U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs), and other participants. In her keynote speech, Foreign Minister Kang said that the Korea-U.S. alliance has successfully undertaken the role of deterring North Korean provocations and keeping stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Deputy Minister for Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kim Gunn held the 6th Korea-Canada Strategic Dialogue with Assistant Deputy Minister at Global Affairs Canada Paul Thoppil in a virtual format on December 15, and had in-depth discussions on substantive cooperation between the two countries; the situations on the Korean Peninsula and in other regions; global issues including women’s empowerment and climate change; and COVID-19 response.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the 2020 Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Intergovernmental Meeting on December 15, chaired by Deputy Minister for Political Affairs Kim Gunn. The Intergovernmental Meeting is part of the “Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Platform” project, which is being carried out by the Korean government with the aim to build a practice of dialogue and cooperation in Northeast Asia.
