MOFA Spokesperson’s Commentary on Recent Situation in Israel and Palestine

The government of the Republic of Korea is deeply concerned by numerous casualties caused by the recent violence in Israel and Palestine. In particular, the government of the Republic of Korea expresses concern over violence in Haram al-Sharif (also known as the Temple Mount), and calls upon all sides to refrain from actions that escalate tension. The government of the Republic of Korea reiterates its position that the status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem must be respected.

The government of the Republic of Korea expresses deep disappointment and regret over the fact that responsible leaders of Japan have once again sent offerings to and paid respects at the Yasukuni Shrine which glorifies Japan’s war of aggression and enshrines war criminals.
