President Yoon to be 1st Korean leader to attend NATO summit
President Yoon Suk Yeol from June 29-30 will attend the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Madrid, Spain. This event will be the president's first summit diplomacy of his term. Launched in 1949, NATO is a security alliance led by the U.S. and European countries. This will be the first time for the group to invite the leader of Korea, a non-member country, to take part in the summit.

President Yoon Suk Yeol from June 29-30 will attend the summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Madrid, Spain, the first Korean head of state to do so. National Security Office Director Kim Sung-han on June 22 held an afternoon briefing at the presidential office in Seoul's Yongsan-gu District to announce the itinerary of President Yoon's first visit abroad since the latter assumed office. This summit is President Yoon's debut at a multilateral diplomatic event since his inauguration last month.

President Yoon Suk Yeol on June 29 attended a meeting of the North Atlantic Council at the level of head of state and government with partner countries at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Madrid, Spain. He said, ”To lead North Korea toward the path of denuclearization, we must clearly show that the international community has a stronger determination to denuclearize North Korea than the North's reckless intent to develop nuclear missiles.”
