Republic of Korea Offers Condolences to Poland

The Polish presidential plane crashed near Russia’s Smolensk Airport on April 10, killing everyone on board, including President Lech Kaczynski and the First Lady.

On the heels of the shocking death of President Kaczynski and the First Lady, Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan sent a message of condolence to his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski on April 11 to extend deep sympathy to the Polish people and the bereaved families of the crash victims.

A condolence message was sent to Prime Minister Donald Tusk in the name of President Lee Myung-bak on April 10.

In the message, Minister Yu appreciated the great contributions of late President Kaczynski to promoting Korea-Poland friendly ties through such efforts as the summits during the December 2008 state visit to Korea and President Lee Myung-bak’s official visit to Poland in July 2009. He added that the late President’s noble dedication to democracy and human rights will be in the hearts of everyone around the world for a long time.
