Republic of Korea Shares Grief with Earthquake-hit China



With regard to enormous loss of human lives and property incurred in Qinghai province, China, by a massive earthquake on April 14, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade sent a message of consolation in the name of Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan to his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi on the same day to offer deep sympathy and condolences.

The Korean government decided to send 1 million dollars in emergency relief aid on April 16 in order to support the Chinese government’s recovery efforts.

Immediately after the earthquake, while keeping an eye on damages, the Korean government had prepared to dispatch an emergency rescue team and provide emergency relief supplies in a speedy manner, and decided to provide support in the form of relief aid following consultations with the Chinese government.
