MOFAT Spokesperson’s Commentary on former US President Carter’s Visit to N.Korea

The Government of the Republic of Korea is relieved that Aijalon Mahli Gomes, who had been detained in North Korea, was released on August 27 and made a safe, albeit belated, return to his family. The Government of the Republic of Korea has maintained consultations with the US government regarding former President Carter’s visit to North Korea, in which the US side explained that the visit had been a private humanitarian one.
