21st Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue to be Held on October 18-19

The Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS), together with the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) of the University of California at San Diego, will host the 21st Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue (NEACD) at IFANS on October 18-19.

* The NEACD is a 1.5-track security dialogue, in which government officials and academics from major Northeast Asian countries, including South and North Korea, the US, Japan, China and Russia, participate in their individual capacity.

Kim Hong-kyun, Director-General for Korean Peninsula Peace Regime, and other officials from the Foreign and Defense Ministries will attend the upcoming event along with such officials and academic experts from the US, Japan, China and Russia.

The forthcoming meeting will discuss the long-term political situation on the Korean peninsula as well as assessments on regional military and security environment. We expect the NEACD meeting will serve as an opportunity to draw useful suggestions on how to maintain peace and stability on the Korean peninsula; build trust among Northeast Asian countries; and promote mutual understanding and cooperation in the region.

For your information, a press conference is scheduled for 16:30 at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (Room 125) on October 19. IGCC Director Susan Shirk will hold the press conference with Director-General Kim Hong-kyun. Everyone is invited.
