Spokesperson’s Statement on the Inauguration of the New Iraqi Government

The government of the Republic of Korea welcomes the official inauguration of the new Iraqi government following the Iraqi parliament’s approval of the cabinet list submitted by Prime Minister al-Maliki on December 21. The Korean government considers the formation of an inclusive and integrated government participated by many different parties in Iraq as a major step toward democratic development of the country, and expects that, with the launch of the new government, the foundation for peace and prosperity of the country will further solidify. The Korean government hopes for continued development of friendly and cooperative ties between Korea and Iraq under the new government, and plans to cooperate strongly for reconstruction and stability of the country.
