FM’s Middle East Tour

Foreign Minister Kim Sung-Hwan plans to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Algeria on Feb. 5-10. Consultation is underway with Libya regarding the schedule for his visit to the country.

During the tour, he will hold bilateral meetings with his UAE and Algerian counterparts Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Mourad Medelci regarding ways for bilateral and multilateral cooperation as well as the situation of the Korean peninsula, the Middle East and other parts of the world. A bilateral meeting
with his Libyan counterpart is being arranged with the Libyan side as well. Minister Kim’s schedule during the tour also includes courtesy calls on major leaders of those countries and gatherings with local Korean businesspeople.

Minister Kim will take the opportunity to consult with the UAE and Algerian sides on ways to bolster the existing bilateral strategic partnerships. In Libya, he will seek ways for future-oriented cooperation with the country, with which Korea marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2010.

The upcoming tour, arranged as part of the total and complex diplomacy since Minister Kim’s inauguration, is expected to lay the groundwork for strengthening sales diplomacy aimed at supporting our firms’ bid to win orders, and for boosting energy cooperation with resource-rich Middle Eastern countries.
