The 1st Vice Minister Kwon Jong Rak visited the United Kingdom from November 10 to 11 and held the Korea-UK Policy Consultation with Bill Rammell, the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
At the Korea-UK Policy Consultation, the two sides exchanged views on the political situation in the Korean Peninsula including the North Korean nuclear issue. They also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation on major global issues, such as climate change, G20 financial summit, Peacekeeping Operations and Official Development Assistance.
Vice Minister Kwon also met with the Chairman of the House of Commons Foreign Affairs Select Committee Mike Gapes and the President of the Korea-UK Parliamentarians’ Friendship Association John Stanley. At the meeting, Vice Minister Kwon elaborated on the recent development of the Six-party Talks currently underway to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue and requested the UK Parliament’s support for South Korea’s policy towards North Korea. In addition, the two sides exchanged views on an early conclusion of the Korea-EU FTA and the strengthening of dialogue between Korea’s National Assembly and the UK Parliament.
