Prime Minister of Latvia Ivars Godmanis visited Korea from January 18 to 21. During the visit, Prime Minister Godmanis met with President of Republic of Korea Lee Myung-bak and Prime Minister Han Seung-soo heads of four economic organizations.
During the meeting with Prime Minister Han Seung-soo on January 19 and President Lee Myung-bak on January 20, Prime Minister Godmanis discussed ways to increase substantive cooperation in distribution and forestry sectors, which have high potential for bilateral cooperation. He exchanged views on political situation in the Korean Peninsula and the EU-Baltic Sea region, as well as ways to establish cooperation between the two countries for key international issues, such as the global financial crisis and climate change.
Prime Minister Godmanis is the highest Latvian official to visit Korea since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Latvia in 1991. The visit of Prime Minister Godmanis to Korea served as the momentum for further development of bilateral relations and as an opportunity to enhance high-ranking officials meetings and substantive cooperation between Korea and Latvia.
