Outcome of Vice Minister’s Participation in the International Conference for the Reconstruction of Gaza

 
 
Vice Minister of the Republic of Korea, Shin Kak-soo attended the ‘Cairo International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Economy for the Reconstruction of Gaza’ which was held on March 2 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Vice Minister Shin affirmed the steadfast support of the Korean government on settling peace in the Middle East and on the reconstruction of Palestine. Also, he explained our plans to provide Palestine with $15 million for the next two years (2009-2010) and delivered our willingness to continue supporting social and economic development of Palestine based on Korea’s experiences of post-war reconstruction and economic growth.

With the hopes for a lasting cease-fire between Israel and Palestine, Vice Minister Shin expressed to establish permanent peace in the Middle East and stressed the importance of joint efforts by the international community to reconstruct Gaza.

Representatives from 72 countries and 12 international organizations including the UN took part in this International Conference and pledged to send a total of $5.2 billion to Palestine.
