Korea and Japan saw eye to eye on April 1 that international pressure to deter a N. Korean missile launch is needed.

"The issue of North Korean missiles should be forwarded to the UN Security Council, and the members of the Six-party Talks should take a strong stand on it, too,” President Lee said to Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso in London, a day before the second G20 meeting.

The Prime Minister also said that the missile launch is an obvious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1718. He said he was mulling the adoption of a new security resolution along with the United States and the United Kingdom through the Council. "Not only the Six-party Talks but also close Korea-U.S.-Japan collaboration is important," Aso said.

In response, President Lee said Korea and Japan should convince China to take strong action in relation to the missile launch.

Apart from the missile issue, Prime Minister Aso briefed President Lee on the Japan-led Pakistan assistance conference and said, "In order to solve the problem of Afghanistan, the neighboring Pakistan issue should also be taken care of." Aso said he would raise the Pakistan problem with U.S. President Barack Obama during the G20 meeting.

The two leaders shared the idea that a more advanced agreement should be drawn at the G20 meeting, and pledged to cooperate in macroeconomic policy, anti-protectionist measures and bad asset management.

President Lee emphasized financial support for the developing and emerging economies, and Prime Minister Aso stressed Korea-China-Japan collaboration in stabilizing finance and trade in East Asia.

To further advance Korea-Japan industrial relations, the two leaders agreed to support the successful hosting of the Korea-Japan parts and materials display event (Apr. 16-17) and the Korea-Japan economic leaders' meeting (Apr. 15-17).
