Korea-Thailand Cooperation

President Lee Myung-bak, who is in Thailand's coastal city of Pattaya for the ASEAN+3 summit and the East Asia Summit, met with the Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Friday (Apr. 10). The two leaders shared ideas on ways to enhance the Korea-Thailand and the Korea-ASEAN relations.

The Korean President emphasized that the two countries should further develop their bilateral ties which have strengthened since they established diplomatic relations in 1958.

He also suggested that the two countries expand cooperation in the green industry, including nuclear and renewable energy development, to which the Thai Prime Minister fully agreed.

The leaders welcomed the Korea-ASEAN investment agreement concluded on Apr. 8, and pledged to closely cooperate at ASEAN-related summits, which will hopefully advance discussions on East Asian countries' financial cooperation plans to deal with the economic slowdown worldwide.

President Lee also commented on the special summit between Korea and the ASEAN members to be held on Korea's resort island of Jeju-do on June 1-2. President Lee asked for the Prime Minister's support in advancing Korea-ASEAN ties.
