1st Vice Foreign Minister Kwon Jong-rak visited Romania and Portugal on July 28 and 30 respectively and met with his counterparts to exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
Vice Foreign Minister Kwon Jong-rak had a meeting and working lunch with State Secretary of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doru Romulus Costea on July 28 and noted the close and cooperative relation between the two countries. In particular, they hailed the establishment of a bilateral strategic partnership during Romanian President Traian Basescu’s visit to Korea last September.

In Portugal, Vice Foreign Minister Kwon and his counterpart Deputy Foreign Minister Joao Cravinho expressed satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1961. The two agreed to make joint efforts to upgrade the bilateral relations on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the forging of diplomatic relations in 2011. To this end, they concurred to vitalize high-level officials’ exchange; increase trade and investment; and bolster cooperation in the information-technology and renewable-energy fields.

During his visit to both countries Vice Foreign Minister Kwon expressed the economic benefits the Korea-EU FTA will bring and asked Romania and Portugal to make active efforts toward the early effectuation of the FTA.
