The second round of the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement negotiations took place in Seoul from August 31 to September 4, 2009.
Mr. Lee Taeho, Director-General for FTA Policy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, headed the Korean delegation composed of approximately 90 officials from various government ministries. Ms. Jan Adams, head of the Korea-Australia FTA negotiation Task Force from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, headed the Australian delegation composed of approximately 40 delegates.
The two sides started negotiations on tariff concessions and discussed the details of the concessions list. Both sides also discussed the text of the agreement which include trade in goods, services, investment, and trade related rules.
The two sides agreed to include the issue of cooperation on agriculture and mineral resources, areas of major interest for Korea, as a chapter in the agreement and decided to continue discussing the details.
Both sides also agreed to exchange reservation lists (market access schedules) regarding services and investment before the third round of the negotiations.
The third round of the negotiations is scheduled to be held in Canberra, Australia from November 30 to December 4, 2009.
