Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held a ROK-US Foreign Ministers’ meeting on September 21, and had a close consultation on alliance development, North Korea and its nuclear issues, bilateral cooperation in the G20 and major international issues.
Sharing the view that the ROK-US Summit last June served as an important turning point for the development of future-oriented alliance, Foreign Minister Yu and Secretary of State Clinton agreed to continue cooperation for substantial implementation of the Joint Vision for the ROK-US Alliance and for the smooth progress of the alliance-realignment projects.
After a review of the current status with respect to the North Korean nuclear issue, Minister Yu and Secretary Clinton reaffirmed their common goal of achieving a denuclearized North Korea through the Six-party Talks and agreed to continue diplomatic efforts in a bid to facilitate the Six-party process in close cooperation with the related countries.
Furthermore, they agreed to maintain their current two-track approach to North Korea, faithful implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions and seeking dialogue with North Korea, with a view to inducing North Korea to change its attitude.
