With regard to enormous loss of human lives and property in Laos caused by typhoon “Ketsana” on September 30, the Government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide emergency relief supplies worth 100,000 dollars to support recovery efforts in Laos and join the international community in its humanitarian assistance activities.
※ Typhoon “Ketsana” that hit southern Laos on September 30 has left 20 people dead, 135 missing, and tens of thousands homeless. The typhoon also caused $110 million worth of property damage, destroying 1,000 houses and washing away 20,000 hectares of farmland and livestock.
Concerning the losses from the recent typhoon, the Laotian government has called on
international organizations, including the United Nations, and foreign governments to support recovery operations. The Korean government will provide clothing and dry food products that the Laotian government has asked for.
