Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan and his Canadian counterpart Lawrence Cannon held a meeting on November 9 and exchanged views on promoting exchange and cooperation between the two countries. The two Ministers discussed energy and resources development, Canadian Prime Minister Harper’s visit to Korea in December, and cooperation with regard to next year’s G20 Summit. Canada and Korea will host the G20 Summit in June and November next year respectively.
The two Ministers noted with satisfaction that Korea-Canada relations have seen continued development through active people-to-people exchanges, such as two summit meetings this year, and cooperation on the international stage. They then reached a common understanding that their governments will work closely together to further expand steadily-increasing substantive cooperation in the energy and resources field.
Taking note of close joint efforts made by Korea and Canada as the chairs of next year’s G20 Summit, the two sides agreed to further bolster bilateral cooperation for the successful hosting and operation of the said Summit.
