6th Korea-Spain Forum

The 6th Korea-Spain Forum was held in Cordoba, Spain, on January 21-22 with some 50 figures from various sectors of the two countries.

In the Forum, the two sides had overall discussions regarding their society and culture, bilateral cooperation in economy, science and technology, national brand, soft power and their friendly and cooperative ties based on the presentations made on gender equality, economic cooperation among Korea, Spain and Europe, public diplomacy, and politics and security. The results of the discussions will be delivered to relevant government agencies of the two countries to be reflected in their policies down the road.

The Forum was meaningful in that it was the first event held by Korea and Spain in the year marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. Lim Jae-hong, Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Minister for Planning and Coordination, Carmen Caffarel, Director of Spain’s Cervantes Institute, and other government officials also took part in the event, further highlighting the significance of the 60th diplomatic anniversary and the importance of developing bilateral ties.

The Korea-Spain Forum, whose inaugural meeting took place in Seoul in November 2003 as proposed by Spain, has been held regularly by the Korea Foundation and Spain’s Casa Asia since. It now functions as a major discussion channel between the two countries, through which leaders from media, business, academic and other diverse sectors of the two countries explore ways of promoting bilateral cooperation and friendship.
