Search Efforts to be Stepped Up for Patriot Ahn Jung-geun’s Remains

As March 26 this year, marks the centennial of the death of Patriot Ahn Jung-geun at China’s Lushun prison, the government plans to strengthen diplomatic cooperation with China and Japan for an early excavation and homecoming of his remains.

To this end, the Foreign Ministry will exert organized and systematic efforts to search the remains in close cooperation with the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and other relevant government agencies.

Upon the prospective launch of the tentatively-dubbed “Joint Public-Private Remains Excavation Task Force,” the Ministry will take an active part, rendering support with the Task Force’s activities overseas.

A support team will be set up within the Ministry to assist the Task Force with search and
excavation activities for Patriot Ahn’s remains.

The Ministry will step up diplomatic efforts to facilitate a swift collection of as much data as possible on Patriot Ahn's remains from related countries such as Japan, China and Russia.

Support will be extended to facilitate collection of information overseas and on-site search by Korean experts.

To prepare for actual search and excavation, cooperation with China, where the remains lie, will be secured in advance.
