The 8th Korea-Oman Policy Consultation Meeting was held in Seoul on January 30, with Ma Young-sam, Director-General of the African and Middle Eastern Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Salim Al-Rayami, Director-General  of the East Asia Department of the Omani Foreign Ministry, as heads of the delegations, respectively.

 During this meeting, the two sides had discussions on various areas such as political affairs, economy, trade, energy, construction, culture, sports and tourism. The main agreements reached in the meeting are as follows:

  o Both sides noted on the importance of energy cooperation, and the Omani side expressed its willingness to render efforts to continue a stable provision of energy to Korea.
  o The Omani side agreed to actively support the participation of Korean companies in the development projects in the Duqum area in Oman, including building oil refineries and petrochemical industrial complex. 
  o The Omani side expressed its willingness to actively participate in and support for the establishment of the Middle-East Arab Society which is being pursued by Korea, and agreed to send high-level officials to the inaugural ceremony.
  o Both sides agreed to work in close collaboration in education, and to invite Omani students to study in Korea at the earliest date possible.
  o The Korean side agreed to share the experiences of its economic development and advanced technology with Oman, and to increase the number of Omani people for training in Korea in the field of information technology .
  o The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas of culture and sports, and to make mutual efforts for the Omani Taekwondo athletes to have training in Korea during their summer break.

The 8th Korea-Oman Policy Consultation Meeting was held in four years since the 7th meeting in October 2004. The two sides agreed to have the 9th meeting in Oman.
