The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) in Trinidad and Tobago on February 11.
The focus of this MOU is on strengthening cooperation between the Korea and the ACS in the four areas of trade development, sustainable tourism, transport, and prevention of natural disasters (the 4 focal areas of the ACS). Based on such cooperation, this MOU is aimed at promoting Korean companies' activities in the Caribbean region by providing assistance to underdeveloped countries in the region and sharing development experiences in the fields of socio-economic infrastructure and information technology. This MOU will be signed between H.E. Mr.Shin Soong-chull, Korean ambassador to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and Mr. Luis Carpiu, Acting Secretary General of the ACS.
Korea joined the ACS as an Observer at the 4th Ministerial Council Meeting of the ACS in 1998, and has been attending Ministerial Meetings and Summits of the ACS since then.
