The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade launched an English website on official development assistance (ODA) of Korea (www.odakorea.go.kr/eng) on February 19 to provide comprehensive information on the ODA policy of the Korean government and strengthen cooperative ties with various international organizations such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
On this website, there are introductions on Korea’s development assistance to the international
community including the history, policies, statistical data, and the bilateral and multilateral programs of Korea. In particular, the website collects public opinions from various users including civil societies, academic circles, research institutes and governments and people of recipient countries through the boards of 'Message' and 'Consultation'.
The website is expected to help secure transparency in the ODA-related policy-making and implementation process, strengthen public relations and increase research activities on Korea's ODA. Moreover, this website is likely to help promote exchanges between Korea and the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the OECD, of which Korea is making efforts to become a member in 2010.
