Korea-Kazakhstan Seminar on Economic Strategy was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from March 26 to March 28. The Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office Cho Jung-pyo headed the joint government-civilian delegation of Korea comprised of about 30 representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, KDI(Korea Development Institute), Financial Supervisory Service, the Bank of Korea and etc. From Kazakhstan’s side, about 110 participants attended the seminar including President of the Senate Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, Minister of Finance Bolat B. Zhamishev and Minister of Economic Affairs and Budget Planning Bakhyt Sultanov.
The Kazakhstan government views South Korea as the country that best handled the financial crisis in the late 1990s and invited Korean experts to the seminar in the hope of gaining insight to overcome the current financial crisis in Kazakhstan. The two sides shared the experience in overcoming financial crisis and discussed the policy direction to surpass the current financial crisis in Kazakhstan.
Korea and Kazakhstan are moving toward establishing comprehensive cooperative ties in various areas such as information technology, finance and construction as well as energy and resources. The seminar is expected to serve as a valuable opportunity to bolster financial cooperation between the two countries.
